Professor Rintu Banerjee is a distinguished academic, internationally recognized researcher, and technology innovator in the fields of industrial biotechnology, bioenergy, bioprocess engineering, and sustainable biomass valorization. She is a Professor in the Department of Agricultural and Food Engineering at the Indian Institute of Technology Kharagpur and currently serves as the Deputy Director of the Institute. In 2024, she achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first woman Deputy Director of IIT Kharagpur, the first Indian Institute of Technology established in the country. Over a career spanning more than three decades, she has made pioneering contributions to renewable energy, microbial biotechnology, industrial enzymes, lignocellulosic biofuels, waste-to-wealth technologies, biomaterials, and circular bioeconomy. She has successfully led numerous nationally and internationally funded research projects, secured several Indian and international patents, transferred multiple technologies to industry for commercialization, and published extensively in high-impact scientific journals. Her visionary leadership, commitment to translational research, and dedication to academic excellence have established her as one of India's foremost scientists in biotechnology and sustainable engineering.
